INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGN

Cyclic diagram showing stages: Analysis, Design, Develop, Implement, with Evaluate in the center.

Onboarding and New-hire Curricula

  • I start with a detailed front-end analysis including interviews (decision makers, stakeholders, high-performers, etc.), review of existing materials, focus groups, surveys, input from job incumbents, etc.
  • Once I know the outcomes or the results expected from the target audience, I typically identify: 1) Core proficiencies, 2) Examples of mastery performance, 3) Behaviors that produce results, 4) Criteria to measure success, 5) Estimated time to proficiency, etc.
  • In most cases, I'll design a blended learning solution with a Learning Path that identifies essential learning activities. Deliverables may include: Learner Activity Guides, Manager Activity Guides, Interactive Onboarding Guides, Individual Learner Development Plans, Knowledge Assessments, Performance Assessments, eLearning, Microlearning, etc.

Courses/Workshops/Seminars

  • For courses/workshops/seminars, I'll develop facilitator support materials such as: Leader Guides, PowerPoint Presentations, Scripts, Video, Audio, Train-the-Trainer Sessions, etc. For the learner, I'll develop materials such as: Participant Guides, Job Aids, Case Studies, Simulations, Behavioral Checklists, etc.

Product Launches

  •  I supported the successful launch of 20 pharmaceutical and medical device products by designing and developing pre-launch and launch meeting training for sales representatives.
  • In these types of projects, deliverables typically included: Pre-launch Disease-State Modules, Annotated Reprints, Breakout Session Leader Guides, PowerPoint Presentations, Participant Guides, Case Studies, Games, Assessments, etc.

Learning Paths

  •  A Learning Path is a structured, blended learning journey designed to build the proficiencies employees need to consistently perform and deliver measurable results on the job.
  • A Learning Path starts with clearly identified job proficiencies
  • Proficiency statements define specific, observable behaviors and are used to create learning objectives
  • Once completed, the Learning Path is a blended learning solution with multiple learning modalities (e.g., onboarding, courses, eLearning, workshops, microlearning, practice, coaching, and assessments)
  • Activities are distributed over time to reinforce learning through spaced practice and real-world application
  • Learning Gates are used to confirm mastery of critical knowledge and skills before advancement and completion of the Learning Path
